alrite, so here's a nice open question lol
any big jazzers on here, if so what musitions or groups do you rate? I'm a 78 rpm record collecter amongst other things, and tend to collect jazz. My favourite players would be louis armstrong, sidny bechit, bunny berigan, art tatum, jo venuty and eddy lang, fats waller, well they are some of them anyway lol anyone else madly into this stuff?

Oh my gall, I haven't come across much between 1920-1950 that I haven't liked! I love the bigband era! Ragtime, swing, sweet, hot, love it all!

I've actually just rented Ken Burns Jazz from netflix. Finished disc one, it was brilliant! So much fun to learn about the roots of jazz.

WDUQ has a great Swing show Saturday nights.
KOUW also has a Swing show on Saturday evening.
Oh what is their line, I love it. Something like...
The best music from the first half of the last century.

KPLU has a wonderful program Sunday Afternoon, early evening. It is called the art of jazz. I could listen to it all day.

It is great when these radio shows play from the original records. They are the best with the hisses and pops!

*Hee-Hee, Polka Dot grinning from ear to ear.* Great topic!

Early jazz is quite simply some of the best music on the plannet in my humble oppinion, which is why i have a couple of thousand 78s of the stuff lol I'm very slowly digitising them, incidently.

I will check out the shows you listed methinks, thanks man
also, www.archive.org has some decent 78s if you know what to search for, most notably loads of the great bunny berigan.

I'm not a huge jazz fan, but when I do listen to it's pretty much stuff from the 20's. I couldn't tell you any names but I automatically know the type of music when I hear it. Very nice sound.

I'm honestly still learning about jazz, so what I'm into is mostly stuff that crossed over to the pop charts and I guess this also means I enjoy jazz from the LP era. Got a bit of Bird and Dizz, though, on a budget CD that I like, and some Thelonius Monk, and a little of what I call soul jazz, like Herby Mann and Wes Montgomery. Guess that style preceeded fusion jazz and so-called smooth jazz which I'm not so much into. I need to hear more earlier stuff.

I'm a giant jazz fan. Cultrain, Miles Davis, Benny Goodman...Monk is hilarious (well you needn't is sweet), Charles Mingus, Maria Schnider, ROY HARGROVE!!!
Not a fan of smoothe "jazz."

I'm not a big jazz fan myself, with the exception of Louis Armstrong.

omg, roy hargrove! Forgot about him!
miles davis is awsome, until that kind of rocky stuff, didn't dig that. George benson started out amazingly, then went into 80s pop, ugh. Listening to canonball adily rite now.
I personally prefer art tatum to monk, but ya know...

lol I'm not the best player, don't rate my playing and am awfully shy in front of a piano but others don't seem to mind it
